Total Viewers:
CBS: 5.09 million, ABC: 2.90, NBC: 2.58, Fox: 2.03, CW: 609,000

Adults 18-49:
Fox: 0.5 rating/4 share, ABC and CBS: 0.4/ 3 each, NBC: 0.3/ 3, CW: 0.1/ 1

Friday, as always, remains a particularly problematic night for the broadcast networks. In season premiere news, ABC featured two veteran returnees: “Shark Tank” (Viewers: #2, 3.55 million; A18-49: #1t, 0.5/ 4 at 8 p.m.) and newsmagazine “20/20” (Viewers: #3, 2.57 million; A18-49: 0.3/ 3 from 9-11 p.m. ET). Both were down from their year-ago openers (but both are in no danger of ending anytime soon).

The CW also featured the season premiere of “Nancy Drew”, which opened with no registered rating in adults 18-49 (translation: 0) and a mere 470,000 viewers (#5) in the Friday 8 p.m. ET hour. And this is a show the network ordered a spin-off series from: the upcoming “Tom Swift.” Go figure!

Earlier in the evening on The CW was magic show “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” at 749,000 viewers (#5) and a 0.1/ 1 in the demo in adults-49 (#5). These days, it is rare when the network cracks one million viewers before the DVR usage is factored in.

CBS, as expected, won the night in total viewers. But its perennial night of crime solvers is a shell of what it once was. Take a look:

Friday/CBS
8:00 p.m. “S.W.A.T.”
Viewers: 4,56 million (#1), A18-49: 0.4/ 3 (#3)

9:00 p.m. “Magnum, P.I.”
Viewers: 5.00 million (#1), A18-49: 0.4/ 3 (#1t)

10:00 p.m. “Blue Bloods”
Viewers: 5.69 million (#1 for the night), A18-49: 0.4/ 3 (#1t)

Fox, meanwhile, took the crown in adults 18-49, but a 0.5 rating/4 share in the demo for “WWE Friday Night Smackdown” (and 2.03 million viewers overall) is nothing to boast about. And tired “Dateline” on NBC (Viewers: #2, 2,92 million; A18-49: #1t, 0.4/ 3 from 9-11 p.m.) remained just that. It aired out of a repeat of freshman “Ordinary Joe.”
